after about a minute, he drops down from the adjacent tree, aiming to tackle them to the ground. ]

[ they're successfully tackled, but they anticipated it enough that they land on their back and manage to get a knee up in between the two of them - which they use to try and gain leverage to throw him off and back against the trunk of the tree. ]
